Here’s a little break from the normal stuff

Today is a very special day. It is my first anniversary of marriage with my wife and soon to be daughter. Next month we’ll be celebrating our second first year anniversary.

Let me explain…

We met years ago at Texas State University in the halls of LBJ in 2009. If you know, you know. When we first met, I knew she was someone special. We shook hands and she introduced herself,

Hi, I’m Felicia.

And that was the beginning of our friendship, which turned into our now one year anniversary. Yeah, it took me a minute, but we got here.

I won’t bore you with the whole story, but the reason we are celebrating two wedding anniversaries is because of our little guy Ollie. You can see more of him in my very rough “first photography” style post here: Site Test… and Pup.

He was diagnosed with histiocytic sarcoma in his left lung in September of 2022. He underwent surgery and was given 6 months to live. He underwent surgery and had a full lung removal. We decided that our wedding was going to be in January because of that.

Well… here’s where the first wedding comes into play

In the beginning of December 2022 he came down with a bad case of pneumonia and was hospitalized in an oxygen kennel. I didn’t even know those things existed. On our way to pick him up from the hospital, we had a very heart-to-heart conversation and decided to hold onto our wedding date, but to also elope to ensure that our little guy was still in our wedding.

So, we eloped on 17 December and had our wedding on 7 January.

Our guy held strong through both. As of this writing, he’s still holding strong. He’s the toughest little dude I know.

Now, as we are in the twilight of our first year of marriage, we’re expecting our first child. Last night I actually felt her move for the first time.

Absolute perfect anniversary present.

So, we move on. We’ve been very fortunate in our lives to have so many wonderful memories, love, and mix of circumstances surround us and pass through us.

I’ve been writing a little too work related and technical lately and it feels great to put this down.

Whoever is reading this, I hope that you’re feeling whatever love and connections you have in your life as much as we are.

All the best.
